Dental PFM and FCC
PFM restorations consist of a metal substructure covered with a layer of porcelain. The metal substructure provides strength and support, while the porcelain layer provides an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Full-cast crowns are made entirely of metal, without a porcelain layer. They are typically used for posterior teeth, where strength and durability are more important than aesthetics. The most commonly used metals in FCC restorations include precious metals, semi-precious metals, and non-precious metals.
Dental Zirconia and Emax
Zirconia crowns are made of a translucent metallic oxide that, like eMax, does a great job approaching the look of natural teeth while still providing unbelievable toughness and durability. eMax is a name for a line of crowns made of ultra-, ultra-durable porcelain called a lithium disilicate. The material process makes eMax much stronger than traditional porcelain and nearly all ceramic competitors.
Dental Maryland Bridge
A Maryland bridge is also known as a resin-bonded fixed partial denture. Like a traditional bridge, it includes a floating tooth to replace the missing one, but it adheres to the adjacent teeth in a unique way.

Advantages of Fixed Crown
Pain-Free Option
If you have a damaged tooth, it can be extremely uncomfortable to eat, drink, or even speak normally. Fixed crowns are typically placed after other procedures have been completed to address the underlying problem. The crown will help you feel more comfortable and prevent additional damage to your teeth. It prevents harmful bacteria from entering the tooth and shuts off the pulp from the outside.
Easy Installation
The enamel of your tooth will first be cleansed and prepared. The decayed or broken areas of the tooth are extracted. The tooth will be reshaped to fit the cap snugly. Your fixed crown will be cast from an impression of your mouth. You'll wear a temporary crown in the meanwhile. Your dentist will fit you with a crown once it is completed.
Custom
Fixed crowns are created specifically for each patient and are shade-matched to the patient's natural teeth. No universal solution exists. This ensures that the new tooth or teeth will serve the same purpose as the originals. No one will be able to tell that you're sporting a fixed crown, not even you! Natural in appearance and texture!
Long Lifespan
Crowns for teeth are built to endure a lifetime. Fixed crowns have a lifespan of 15-30 years, depending on the patient's oral hygiene habits. Selecting a competent dentist to carry it out is equally crucial. If your dentist is skilled and uses high-quality bonding material, your fixed crown should last many years.
Fixed Crown Alloys Types
High noble:
Precious. These alloys have over 60% gold, platinum and/or palladium content. High noble metal is one of the easiest alloys to adjust.
Noble:
Semiprecious. These alloys have over 25% noble metal (gold, platinum, palladium) con- tent. Noble metal crowns offer a more hypoallergenic restoration over base metal crowns.
Base:
Nonprecious. Contains less than 25% noble metal. Many base metal alloys contain nickel, chrome, and/or beryllium alloys.
The Manufacturing Process of the Fixed Crown
Tooth Preparation: The process includes shaping the tooth to provide a suitable foundation for the fixed crown and removing any decaying or damaged areas.
Impressions: An impression of the tooth and its surroundings is made once the tooth has been prepared. The fixed crown is made using this impression as a model, ensuring a precise fit.
Temporary Crown: While the permanent fixed crown is being made, the prepared tooth may be covered with a temporary crown to keep it safe. Usually, acrylic or similar temporary material is used to create the temporary crown.
Metal Substructure Fabrication: A metal substructure is made to fit the prepared tooth. A non-precious or semi-precious metal, such as cobalt-chromium or nickel-chromium alloy, is typically used to create this substructure. Crown fabrication is designed to be strong and durable, providing structural support for the fixed crown.
Layering Porcelain: The metal substructure is covered in layers of porcelain. To produce a fixed crown that closely mimics a real tooth in terms of color, form, and translucency, the technician carefully shapes and fires the porcelain. A desired aesthetic can be achieved by applying multiple porcelain layers.
Adjustments and polishing: The fixed crown is modified to ensure a perfect fit and alignment of the bite after the porcelain has been layered and molded. After making any required modifications, the fixed crown is polished to a smooth finish.
Try-in: A try-in is done to make sure the fit and appearance are acceptable before the fixed crown is permanently cemented. If necessary, any final modifications are made at this point.
Cementation: Once the patient and dentist are satisfied with the fit and appearance, the fixed crown is cemented onto the prepared tooth using dental cement. The fixed crown is then carefully positioned and held in place until the cement sets.
Bite and Occlusion Check: After cementation, the dentist will check the patient's bite and ensure that the fixed crown does not interfere with the occlusion. Any final adjustments may be made to ensure a proper bite.
Final Polishing: The fixed crown is polished once again to make sure it blends seamlessly with the natural teeth and feels comfortable in the mouth.
Fixed Crown Indications
Tooth decay:
Demineralized or decayed portions of teeth May not support a filling, making them more susceptible to fracturing or breakage when biting down on hard food. In these instances, the dentist can remove any decay, reshape your tooth, and place a fixed crown to protect it from further damage.
Improperly restored teeth:
If you have deteriorating fillings, they could break or dislodge. This can leave your tooth weakened and susceptible to breakage.

Tooth fracture:
A fractured tooth can extend through the enamel and into the softer dentin layer beneath. Although your dentist can treat most fractures with a filling, some fractures are too extensive for fillings alone and require the removal of additional tooth structure.
Cosmetic reasons:
Fixed crown can improve the look of misshapen or crooked teeth or match the color of adjacent teeth.
